You can find many different employees at a Museum. Some small Museums might only have some of the positions, other large ones might have additional employees, but at most Museums you will find people like: |
Director: A Director oversees the entire museum. He is in charge of all the other workers and coordinates what who does when. Curator: A Curator locates, chooses, and plans the contents and exhibits of the museum. All the display cases and artifacts that you can see are probably set up and maintained by the Curator. If the Museum has a special exhibit, like a show, it was the Curator who planned it and set it up. |
||
Graphic Designer: The Graphic Designer labels everything so that you know what you are looking at. He creates signs and posters for special exhibits. Sometimes, if a Museum does not have a Graphic Designer, the Curator does this job. Conservator: A Conservator repairs displays that are damaged. If something that is displayed breaks the Conservator needs to know enough about the item to repair it and restore it to its original state. He has to know alot about artifacts and history. Registrar: The Registrar keeps a catalog of each item in the museum's collection. Because many items in the Museum are very valuable, it is important to keep a record of everthing. The catalog can also help visitors to find items if they are looking for something specific. | ||
Crew: A Crew sets up and moves displays. Some Museums have large displays and exhibits which they change often. They need workers to set up and move the heavy cases, walls, and shelves. Publicity Director: The Publicity Director informs the public about events and programs at the museum. When the Museum has a special exhibit, the community needs to know about it. It is the Publicity Director's job to inform the newspaper, radio, and maybe even the television stations about this event, so that as many people as possible come and visit. The Publicity Director might also be in charge of what is posted on the Web site. Docents (Volunteers): Volunteers are very important people working at Museum. Even a small Museum needs Volunteers. They conduct tours of the museum, welcome visitors, answer questions, and help during special events, like special exhibits or dinners and such. |
